The flux linkage method was used in [6]. By using the flux-current-rotor position characteristic of a SR motor, rotor position can be characterised by the variation of flux linkage at constant current or variation of current at constant flux linkage. By applying a voltage pulse from the DC-DC converter to the idle phase, the current and voltage of the phase winding are measured and integrated to obtain the flux linkage value. For the variation of current at constant flux linkage, the phase current is measured when a prescribed flux linkage is reached. The measured phase current is then used to determine the rotor position from a stored characteristic of flux-current-rotor position corresponding to the prescribed flux linkage.
