About
A rotor position detection method using sinusoidal approximation to the phase inductance profile was used in [12]. The phase inductance of a SR motor is assumed to vary as a sinusoidal function of the rotor position. If two unenergised phases are available for injecting voltage pulses from the power converter circuit, rotor position can be estimated as an inverse tangent function of the small change in the phase currents corresponding to the voltage pulses. The estimated rotor position is used for commutation purposes and also for training a rotor position prediction neural network online. The well-trained neural network is used to provide the information about the rotor position when the rotor position estimated from the estimator is unreliable.
